It's October Already?

Greetings! Sorry I haven't been blogging for a while. Things have been crazy here. I don't even know where to begin. So, I may repeat myself.

We made an offer on that condo. The inspection found the roof to be in need of repair, plus two sinks were leaking underneath. The seller wouldn't fix anything, so we backed out. Then we looked at a house that would have been perfect for us, all we'd have to do is rip out the carpeting. We would have to sell our house to buy it. We made an offer, two other parties did, too. Seller accepted the offer from someone who did not have to sell their house.

Then we made an offer on the mobile home we started out with. It was accepted but we had to sell our house by September 12. It didn't. We decided we tried three times, and it didn't work so we were meant to stay here. We unpacked the storage pods that held the excess furniture, etc., that the realtor said to do to stage the house. Now we have boxes everywhere.

Over a week ago, one evening I got out of the recliner, put my left foot down and was hit with excruciating pain. I couldn't put weight on that foot. We have Vic's dad's walker here, so I used it, sitting on it and maneuvering with my right foot. The next day we went to Urgent Care and sat there for several hours waiting for our turn. When I did get to see a provider, she had x-rays done. There was no break, which I didn't think there would be because I didn't fall. It was inflamed, maybe osteopenia, and there was a bone spur. I was told to go to my PCP and a podiatrist within a week. She gave us an Rx for a wheelchair.

Earlier this week I went to my PCP. She is in the same building as a podiatrist! She had him come and see me. He was able to see the x-rays and said there is no bone spur there. He gave me an injection in that foot and explained that it could be a pinch in whatever sheaths the foot.

I'm still in the wheelchair. I'm still in pain. The door jambs are all chipped up now and in need of repainting! The worse part is getting up in the night, as a person of a certain age does. There is thick carpet in the bedroom. The other night my pj's got tangled up in one of the wheels and I couldn't get it undone so I just took the pj's off. I didn't want to wake Vic up. I had to walk on the sore foot, which was horrible.

I can't do much of anything. I thought to myself, what if? What if we were trying to move right now? All things work out the way they are supposed to, I guess!

I've still been writing letters to the nursing homes, Meals on Wheels and assisted living facilities. Since Feb. 26 I have written 427 letters for this purpose, plus my regular pen friends. And cards to family for birthdays, etc. If you are interested, the website is Letters Against Isolation.

I have beautiful roses on my writing table. Vic picked them from the yard. A vase of yellow ones and a vase of ivory with hot pink edges.

I'll try to do better about posting here!

Happy Autumn!

On My Mind

This post was from another date; I'm not down in the dumps today.

I am down in the dumps today. At least one of my grandchildren is being bullied at school. I know why bullying exists, but it doesn't make me any less upset about it. I believe people who bully are insecure themselves and it makes them feel like they have power, are in control of their own mind/life to pick on other children. That does not make it right. Take a kid with everything going for him/her. Good grades, great family. How much bullying can that kid bear? Is he the one who shoots people in their school? Or takes drugs and succumbs to an overdose? We surely don't know, but we do know that bullying is unacceptable. Parents need to be aware if their child is being bullied, or if their child is the one bullying, and then do something about it. The schools do, too.

Family Reunion

If you are of the Burnett clan, there will be a family reunion on the Oregon Coast, soon. If you need more info, comment here and I will answer. No one will see it except me, and I do not have to post it. I don't to put personal info here, nor do I want to put particulars about events.

If you do not wish to comment here, the person to contact is Jenni Harper.

Still plugging away on the house sale/mobile purchase.

What? Scam?

A new scam, another way for the people who want something instead of getting a job. I don't know how many times a day we get "Potential Scam" phone calls. I guess that is their job. See below.

There was another Open House from 3 pm to 6 pm yesterday. Vic's siblings, Craig and Diana, were here with their spouses, Darell, and Ellen, and we were all at Deb and Farrell's to visit and have dinner. We got home about 10 pm. All the lights were on in the house with the blinds open, which was disconcerting. I thought the realtor was supposed to turn the lights off. And, this really ticked me off: someone had messed with the thermostat and set it in the mid-50s. It was frigid in here. Why in the world would someone do that? They also didn't shut the slider in our bedroom correctly and jammed the lock so Vic had to get a screwdriver and fix it. Let's just say there will never be another Open House. Both of us are to the point where we are tired of all of this. We want to go back to our messy selves! Vic wants to draw! Nancy wants to create. At least I have my letter-writing-to nursing-homes project to keep me occupied. I'm at 320 letters now. I've received another letter in return, this time from three ladies!

Please note: Jessica, our daughter-in-law is not the one who conducted the Open House. She is our realtor but another person from their firm did both Open Houses.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation issued a warning this week about a new type of "brushing" scam. "In a traditional brushing scam, online vendors send merchandise to an unsolicited recipient and then use the recipient's information to post a positive review of the product," reads a statement the FBI's Pittsburgh field office posted on X.

Here We Go Again

Two offers have been made, one on a condo, and another on a house, for one thing or another they did not work out. We are trying again. We are trying to purchase the mfg. home we looked at before those two offers were made. The only reason we didn't follow through with it at the time is that we thought Hubby should have a garage. There is not one there but there is a little building in the back and he is going to see about building a larger one if this all works out. We have til September 12 to sell our house. But since we have a contingency, we can be bumped. If this one doesn't work out, I give up!

I've been reading books on my Kindle Fire. I think I've read three this last week. I'll start another one today. I used to read prolifically but slacked way off when I started writing my book.

I'm hoping to see The Naked Gun this weekend. Derek says it is hilarious but I might find some things inappropriate! We like Liam Neeson and this will be a departure from his tough guy image, I'm thinking.

I really feel like being creative but not all of my supplies are here. I guess I didn't think it through before I put some of them in the storage pod. I guess I thought the house would sell fast. It's not a bad house, we like it a lot and are sad to be moving but we just can't keep it up. The yard is about half an acre and Hubby can't keep it up like it needs to be and he won't hire anyone else to do it because "they won't do it like I want them to."

Another thing I wish I didn't pack: my thermal water bottles. I'm using just one and wish I had another to switch off with. Or have two different beverages going. Like water in one and my sparkling water in another. Life is tough, isn't it? LOL.

Summer's last hurrah is just around the corner. Enjoy what's left of it.

Happy

How can a person not be happy when listening to Pharrell Williams' song? I'm chair dancing!

I can see a red rose peeking over the fence outside the craft room window. Against the background of the green dogwood tree, it is stunning.

There have been no more showings of our house since the Open House a week ago yesterday. God has someone in mind; we just have to be patient. There is going to be another Open House next weekend and we've lowered the price.

The forecast was for 100 degrees plus. Right now it is 97 degrees. I don't think it got to 100. There is an Extreme Heat Warning until Tuesday at 10 p.m. with the high that day 104 degrees. This is when Hubby likes to go to the beach. We have a family reunion at the beach over Labor Day so I don't think we will be going before that. I'm not the one doing the family reunion; I turned in my family reunion coordinator badge at the last one. They were always fun! A lot of work, but still fun!

I'm off to put my swollen feet and legs up, doctor's orders. I'm reading a book on my Fire tablet so I won't mind.

Another "Guilty"

Do you have a guilty pleasure? I have a few.

~ SF Snickers Iced Coffee with whip at Wake Up Call or SF Vanilla Iced Breve at Starbucks

~ Frixion Clicker Erasable 1.0 pens in blue - I use them up quickly with letter writing

~ That sip of half n' half in the coffee cup before brewing my morning coffee in the Keurig

~ Staying in my pjs all day. At night they are pajamas, during the day, lounge wear

What are yours? Make a comment, I'll approve it and add to the bottom of this post.

Doug, my bro, has fixed our fireplace and it works! We've lived here six years and haven't been able to use it. It is natural gas, and the fire is so pretty. He tried to fix the little gas fireplace stove in the family room, but it is old, and the parts are no longer available. Thank you, Doug! It has been fun having him here, we have been yakking about our families and how wonderful our kids are!
